https://journals.smartinsight.id/index.php/JIEL/article/view/665

This article summarizes and analyzes the concept of the Islamic finance trading framework as explained by Mohsin Ali and Najeeb Zada in The Islamic Finance Trading Framework: Legitimizing Profit Making (2019). The book seeks to build theoretical and practical legitimacy for trading and profit-making activities in Islam. Through an elaboration of Islamic commercial law, Shariah financial contracts, and comparison with the conventional system, this work asserts that Islam does not reject profit but places it within the bounds of justice, honesty, and Shariah ethics. Islam transforms the paradigm of profit from merely an economic value into a moral instrument that reflects social responsibility. By rejecting riba, gharar, and maysir, the Islamic trading system presents an economic mechanism that is more stable and just. This model is not only an alternative to conventional capitalism but also offers an ethical foundation that can improve global economic governance.
Hasna Maliha

https://journals.smartinsight.id/index.php/JIEL/article/view/728

This paper analyses how the Maqasid Index has been used to evaluate Islamic banking performance by conducting a bibliometric study of Scopus-indexed publications in the economics domain. From an initial pool of 544 documents related to Maqasid Sharia and Islamic finance, 101 publications classified in economics and closely related areas were retained for detailed analysis. Using Biblioshiny (Bibliometrix in R) and VOSviewer, the study examines publication trends, citation performance, keyword co-occurrence networks, and thematic evolution. The results show a strong and accelerating growth of research on Maqasid-based performance evaluation since around 2018, with “Islamic bank(ing)”, “Maqasid Shariah”, “performance”, “Indonesia”, and “Malaysia” emerging as dominant terms. Network and density maps reveal five main clusters: (i) performance and profitability, (ii) Islamic banking applications, (iii) Indonesian content-analysis studies, (iv) Shariah governance and compliance, and (v) ethics, religiosity and sustainability. Treemap and word-cloud visualisations confirm that the core of the literature lies at the intersection of Islamic banking, Maqasid al-Shariah and performance, with governance and sustainability becoming increasingly important. The paper contributes by (i) mapping the economics-focused Maqasid Index literature, (ii) clarifying its thematic and geographical structure, and (iii) identifying gaps and implications for future research and industry practice.
Ahmad Nashruddin

https://journals.smartinsight.id/index.php/JIEL/article/view/672

This article aims to scan and classify Ottoman waqf studies by cluster analysis method, and fill the gap in the literature. In addition, this study is expected to be a guiding resource for those who want to do research on Ottoman waqfs. In the study, Scopus database was scanned using the keywords "Ottoman AND waqf" and the data obtained were analyzed by clustering method. The screening was conducted on May 9, 2024. As a result of the screening, a total of 137 studies were identified, including 106 journal articles, 2 books, 11 book chapters, 3 conference papers and 15 review articles. The date range of all studies is between 1979 and 2024. Then, the collected data was processed and analyzed with the R-Biblioshiny software program. This program is a free open source that provides tool support for bibliometric analysis research. The biggest feature of this software is that it creates bibliometric maps using the metadata of the collected articles. In addition to the R-Biblioshiny software program, the Scopus AI was also used to strengthen the analysis. Scopus AI is an AI-powered platform designed to navigate over the Scopus database. As a result of the cluster analysis, 3 main findings were reached. The first of these findings is the significance of the Egyptian region in the studies on Ottoman waqfs. The second finding is the richness of the cluster that touches on the function and importance of Ottoman waqfs throughout the centuries. The third important finding is the size of the cluster, which is generally categorized under the heading of "Ottoman waqfs". Ottoman waqf system included dynastic waqfs established by sultans and high-ranking state officials, with large budgets and providing various public services. Thus, these large waqfs had an economic impact known as the waqf economy.
Aam Slamet RusydianaNazan Lila

https://journals.smartinsight.id/index.php/JIEL/article/view/740

This study aims to analyze the development and research trends of Financial Technology (FinTech) in Türkiye through a bibliometric approach. The data used in this study were obtained from 52 scientific publications indexed in the Scopus database using the keyword “FinTech in Turkiye.” The analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to visualize bibliometric networks, including keyword co-occurrence, author mapping, and thematic clustering. The findings reveal that research on FinTech in Türkiye has grown significantly and can be categorized into four main clusters: (1) FinTech, financial systems, and sustainable economic development; (2) green finance and FinTech; (3) digital transformation and FinTech innovation; and (4) social and economic impacts of FinTech. The results indicate that FinTech plays a crucial role in enhancing financial inclusion, improving the efficiency of financial systems, and supporting sustainable development goals (SDGs). Furthermore, the integration of FinTech with green finance highlights its potential in promoting environmentally sustainable investments, while digital transformation—particularly through artificial intelligence and emerging technologies—acts as a key driver of innovation in the financial sector. Despite its significant contributions, the study also identifies several challenges, including regulatory issues, digital inequality, data security concerns, and institutional readiness. Therefore, a comprehensive and well-regulated approach is necessary to ensure the sustainable growth of the FinTech ecosystem in Türkiye. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing a systematic mapping of FinTech research and offers insights for future research directions, policymakers, and industry practitioners.
Muniem Adam
